Fiat 126

The car manufacturer Fiat first released the Fiat 126 in 1972. It was considered a city car because it was moderately powered, small, and was intended to be used in urban places. The Fiat 126 succeeded the Fiat 500, and in turn, was succeeded by the Fiat Cinquecento. It has only one body style, which is the two-door sedan. The Fiat 126 has three different engines fitted into it. These are the 594 cc straight 2 engine, the mid-sized 652 cc straight 2 engine, and the large 704 cc straight 2 engine. The layout of this car is RR (rear engine, rear wheel drive). The Fiat 126 falls right between its predecessor and successor. This is because the design of the Fiat 126, and all its mechanical layout and underpinnings are the same features found in its predecessor, the Fiat 500. On the other hand, its physical appearance closely resembles Fiat 127. The engine has also been increased over time. And in 1987 up to 1991, the 704 cc engine became available for this Fiat range. In 1977, The Fiat 126 increased its maximum power to 24 horsepower. However, a year later, the production of the smaller engine (594 cc) was stopped, giving way to the only engine now being used in the Fiat 126s. A version of the used Fiat 126 was started separately in 1973. This model was then called the Fiat 126p. This model has an improved grill found at the back of the car. It also has front blinker lights and comes with a higher chassis as well. Despite the differences, it is still an effort to distinguish an ordinary model from the 126p model. Since physically, they really look almost alike, Fiat made it distinguishable by naming it as such — adding a letter p to the original model name. A whopping 1 million units of the Fiat 126p were produced and sold to the public. This definitely reflected how widely accepted this car is. The first million units were all produced until 1981. A separate bulk of the car was also made. And this time, there were about 3 million more units sold to the public. In 1997, another feature was added to the long running Fiat 126 model line. This was the catalytic converter. A catalytic converter is a device that helps control the toxicity of the Fiat 126’s engines. In total, unit sales of the Fiat 126 are around the 4,670,000 mark. This value was tallied in September 2000, when the Fiat 126 was about to end its production stint.
